Clandestino 025 – Discodromo / Valentin Especial

Something a little different on this weeks podcast as Discodromo take time out from recording underground electronic club music for labels such as Internasjonal to deliver a beatless selection especially the lovers. If you find yourself in Berlin check out their CockTail D’Amore party, you can also find them playing regularly at Panorama Bar. Look […]

Clandestino 024 – il Bosco

We’re not quite sure if Il Bosco is a real person or a cyborg that stalks Manchester’s more salubrious night spots. One thing that is for sure, it’s human alter-ego Christian Wood is most definitely real and presides over Manchester’s Red Laser Records, a vinyl only Italo influenced love letter to music from a bygone […]

Clandestino 023 – Franz Underwear

We’re back after the New Year and very pleased to welcome our first mix of the year from another one of Italy’s Slow Motion crew, Franz Underwear. Now residing in Berlin and with recent releases on Tusk Wax, World Unknown and Clouded Vision, Franz is one of the busiest DJ’s in Europe; his sets are a mix of obscure Italian dance, disco house, new wave, space beats, cosmic grooves, electro, acid and some hints of Detroit and Chicago. This mix is an exclusive live performance from the Same Heads party in Berlin where he played alongside Ivan Smagghe.

Clandestino 022 – Kid Who

South London DJ, Remixer and Producer Kid Who aka Louis Jacquet steps forth into our virtual DJ booth on this week’s episode to lay down some tracks he loves but doesn’t get the opportunity to play out. Expect new beat, proto-house, weird new wave and synth sounds. Louis has racked up solid releases on Mindless […]

Clandestino – Balearic Social Guest Mix

We were asked to do a guest mix for the consistently good Balearic Social radio show. The first half of the mix is Clandestino Residents, Joe Morris & Nick Smith with Iain D Mac doing the last 30 mins or so. Track List Nick & Joe Billy W – Kick & Flutter Kalidasa – The […]

Louis has racked up solid releases on Mindless Boogie, Sccucci Manucci and Nang while running his own Bravura imprint. He has a track out this week on the excellent Rainbow Partners compilation and we should see a new EP out on Bravura early next month. Dim the lights, switch on the lasers…

Clandestino 021 – Jamie Blanco

We have a rather special episode this week as we invite Jamie Blanco to put together a live set, consisting entirely of his own material. Jamie came to our attention through his retrospective, yet entirely modern sound on labels like Tusk Wax and London Housing Trust. His live set has taken him to perform recent shows at Renate in Berlin, and Bad Passion in London. Using Ableton with a controller, sending his tracks through an analogue space echo, loop station and Moog filter and playing live acid basslines on his 303, Jamie’s aim is to retain a live feel throughout his sets. Our London followers should check him out playing alongside Andre Lodemann in Shoreditch on December 12th. Look out for new releases coming early next year on Cynic, Disco Bloodbath and again on London Housing Trust, some of which you can hear in the set.

Clandestino 020 – Marcel Vogel

This episode is all about disco. And we don’t mean half-assed nu-disco thrown together on a computer; we mean proper tops off, crackling’ vinyl, basement sweatbox disco just like it should be. Bearded Lumberjack Marcel Vogel from rural Germany chops up soulful tunes as a profession and releases some of these on his Lumberjacks in Hell imprint. Others you’ll only hear in his DJ sets. Many influences shine through when Marcel is behind the decks; the heat and energy of the Chicago Disco masters, the grittiness of the Detroit godfathers, the playfulness of Berlin’s freestyle jocks and the soulful tradition of New York Garage. Let’s chop some wax and heat the dance floor up…

Clandestino 019 – Catalepsia / Days Of Being Wild

Days Of Being Wild is a label we’ve been keeping a keen eye on over the last 12 months or so. With their tagline of ‘slightly deranged club music’ it’s hard not to be interested, and they have soon caught the ear of Ivan Smagghe, Andrew Weatherall, Chloe and Scott Fraser amongst others. We approached them to record a mix for us and they presented us with this fine live session recorded by label head Catalepsia (aka Jerome Bazzanella) at their monthly DOBW session at Willerhof in France. We’re informed there are lots of forthcoming tracks from the label included. Strap in, lets get wild…

Asylum – The End

This weekend the curtain comes down on Asylum as they coincide their 10th birthday celebrations with their final party ever. While they haven’t been that active over the last few year’s, it’s fair to say they have etched out a name for themselves in Leeds club-land folklore forever. Their line ups down the years were impressive […]

Clandestino 018 – Reza Athar

Iranian born Reza Athar came to our attention with a series of exceptional playlists and mixes. Naturally, we thought it only right and proper to ask him to record something for us. And the result is quite special, a mix very much in keeping with the Clandestino ethos. Now residing in Nijmegen, Netherlands Reza promotes the Horizon party, inviting such calibre of guests as Trevor Jackson, Chloe and Jennifer Cardini.

Clandestino 017 – Chris Duckenfield

Chris Duckenfield is one of the UK’s much loved DJ’s. A more versatile spinner you will struggle to find; there is no vibe he can’t turn his hand to while rocking the spot and he remains relevant after more than 20 years at the front line of underground house music. Quite frankly, there is no further hyperbole needed this week. We are honoured to have him on board. Press play and turn up the volume.

Clandestino 016 – Black Merlin

Black Merlin, or George Thompson to his Mum, first came to our attention with his outstanding Brunswick Drive 12″ on Commander Weatherall’s Bird Scarer label last year. Since then, we’ve kept a keen eye on his movements and his unique form of 80’s inspired, cinematic and analogue heavy aesthetic has earned him further releases on the excellent World Unknown imprint and Mike Simonetti’s New Jersey. Look out for an as yet untitled release on London’s LN-CC. We are pleased to welcome him into the Clandestino fold.

Clandestino 015 – Fabrizio Mammarella

We continue to shine a light on quality underground music in all four corners of the world and this week we land in Italy, where Fabrizio Mammarella serves up a mysterious, brooding mix of pitched down dance floor sounds. With a unique sound spanning disco, house & techno, Fabrizio has released on Steve Kotey’s Hairy Claw and Bear Funk imprints and is part of the Slow Motion collective running parties since 2004 in his native Pescara. He also records as Clap Rules, responsible for quirky remixes on DFA, In Flagranti & Tiny Sticks. Turn down the lights…

Clandestino 014 – Above Machine

OK hands up, we have a bone fide cracker of a mix here. We first met Steve Lee on a raucous trip to Croatia a few year’s back and we have been avid followers of his work as Project Club for some time. A stupidly talented producer, his output on labels such as Is It Balearic?, Need Want and Tusk Wax are nothing but essential. His Balearica night in London reads like a who’s who from the underground left field disco scene attracting regular visits from Idjut Boys, Phil Mison, Johnny Nash, Coyote, Paul “Mudd” Murphy, Soft Rocks and more. He recently launched his new vinyl only label Above Machine, under which guise he presents this mix, now on it’s fourth release with a corking EP from Almunia which is topping the more discerning charts everywhere you turn. Quite simply, another must check project from Mr Steve Lee.

Clandestino 013 – Tobias Lidström

We take our first visit to Scandinavia for this weeks episode as Tobias Lidström steps forward to produce a blend of some of the more interesting records in his bag. Tobias aka DJ Tooli is a stalwart of the Stockholm nightlife scene and plays regularly across Europe. He’s co-owner of Local Talk Records, one […]

Clandestino 013 – Tooli

We take our first visit to Scandinavia for this weeks episode as Tobias Lidström steps forward to produce a blend of some of the more interesting records in his bag. Tobias aka DJ Tooli is a stalwart of the Stockholm nightlife scene and plays regularly across Europe. He’s co-owner of Local Talk Records, one of Sweden’s most respected house music imprints and he is also part of the 24 Hours crew, once responsible for the sadly now defunct but excellent blog. Tobias’ mix steps away from the dance floor and takes us on a trip, taking in dowtempo, cosmic oddities, oddball pop and balearica. A hazy late summer mix indeed

Clandestino 012 – Fernando

This month’s podcast comes from Fernando Pulichino who kindly sent us a live mix from a recent set in his native Buenos Aires. We’ve been big fans of Fernando since he appeared in the early noughties as Silver City with long time collaborator Julian Sanza. The pair also formed the backbone of the seminal, now […]

Clandestino 012 – Fernando ‘Live In Buenos Aires’

This month’s podcast comes from Fernando Pulichino who kindly sent us a live mix from a recent set in his native Buenos Aires. We’ve been big fans of Fernando since he appeared in the early noughties as Silver City with long time collaborator Julian Sanza. The pair also formed the backbone of the seminal, now sadly defunct 2020 Soundsystem. But more recently, Fernando has been turning out some sublime disco drenched house cuts featuring his loose, super funky live bass for labels Bear Funk, Redux and Under the Shade. Earlier this year he dropped an LP on Bear Funk which is one of the albums of the year for us.
