Clandestino 049 – Gemini Brothers

Bucharest based producers/ remixers/ DJs, the Gemini Brothers describe 2014 as their “remix year”. Tronik Youth, Shindu & Future Bones amongst others on the list of artists getting their trade mark, slo-mo, dirty arpeggiated dark disco mixes.

2015 is more about original tracks with releases already scheduled at least from May to September. We’ve got an EP on Duncan Grays Tici Taci imprint to look forward to in May, with remixes from Somerville & Wilson as well as a Tici Taci version. Then there’s another EP in June on the fantastic Nein Records featuring remixes from In Flagranti, Daniel Kyo (Poker Flat), Lokier and Teniente Castillo. There’s also stuff coming on new french label called Mange_Moi and Sheffield based Itchy Pig. Combined with more remixes still to drop, it’s looking like we’ll be hearing a lot more from Gemini Brothers this year.

If you’d like to catch them live they DJ at the Pre Party & the Nein Records Igloo @ Alfresco Festival in Blackpool – May 23rd & 24th. There’s further UK dates in Newcastle & Birmingham in June. As well as gigs lined up Prague, Amsterdam, Berlin, Madrid or Cordoba.

Clandestino 048 – No Strings Attached

Scotland has long been a hot bed for underground electronic music; they really know their stuff up there and plying their trade longer than most are respected DJs and promoters Steve Cass & Justin Wilson with their No Strings Attached parties. Now in their 20th year the list of guests appearing alongside them is endless and the longevity of NSA is down to them constantly pushing their sound and bringing back the artists they personally like to hear. Based in Galashiels, south of Edinburgh the duo use a small basement in their local football club with a capacity of only 120. Guests have included Andrew Weatherall, Slam, Ivan Smagghe and Justin Robertson and they have also hosted numerous parties in the Scottish capital including A Love From Outer Space. NSA never stick to one genre expect; anything from weird disco to techno and the odd classic thrown in with this fine mix for us.

Clandestino 047 – Craig Bratley

We’ve been pestering Craig for a mix ever since we started the podcast 3 years ago and we’d abandoned all hope of getting something from him so imagine our surprise when we awoke one morning to find this sitting pretty in our inbox. The cynical amongst us would say he’s got a party to promote and you’d be right but hey, we’ll take it. Craig’s currently riding high on the success of his debut album on Tsuba ‘Buy The Ticket Take The Ride’ and his own Magic Feel stable is back after a short hiatus with a cracking new EP from Paresse & Markus Gibb which is a must buy. As for the aforementioned party, it’s is taking place at Bar A Bar in Stoke Newington, London on 20th March with Craig himself and Clandestino favourites Paramida and Khidja. Should be brilliant, get along to it if your in London. Full details check here: https://www.facebook.com/events/877054012357669/

Clandestino 046 – Cave Paintings

Heavy afro-tinged sounds this week from Leeds-based leftfield party crew Cave Paintings. Taking us on a journey through psychedelic tribal disco that doesn’t sound out of place in a steamy rain forest or on desert plains, their unique style has led them to curate the Dogon Village area at Festival No.6; where the thick tangled woods and trippy jungle sounds add to the ethereal atmosphere they create. We team up next Friday to bring ESP Institute’s Young Marco over from Amsterdam for a debut show. Full details here:

Clandestino 045 – Peza

We caught Peza soundtracking a beautifully sunny Saturday afternoon last September at the fantastic Festival No.6 and ever since then he’s been on our hit list for a mix. Of course, we were already well aware of his super-cool edits on Authodiscotheque and A&R. If you’ve not heard his Human League re-interpretation; you simply aint dancing in the right places. Look out for a forthcoming remix of Tronik Youth’s ‘Splinter of the Mind’s Eye’ on Nein, and his next single ‘Mekon’ on Peter Herbert’s Maxi Discs. Scottish folk could do worse than head to the Reading Rooms in Dundee on March 27th where Peza plays with Dicky Trisco and ALFOS. His mix for us is a beauty; very much the sound of where underground dance music is at in 2015 as far as we’re concerned. Lock yourself in, Peza is at the controls…

Clandestino 044 – Black Merlin (Part 3)

Completing his third instalment for us we welcome back George Thompson in his Black Merlin guise. George’s mixes are always some of our most well received and this one should be no different. Quite unlike most other things you’ll hear; which is of course our mission to bring you interesting sounds from way out there. Black Merlin will shortly be releasing an as of yet untitled album via the Indonesian record label, Island of the Gods. Which George recorded in Indonesia featuring Gamelan music and atmospheric recordings of his experiences there.
